    Alisport intercooler

    G'day,

I'm toying with the thought to do my intercooler, was considering an Alisport and just wanted to know if people thought they were good?
I've got a re chipped ECU, will I need to make any other mods once I've done the upgrade? What sort of difference does it make?

    Cheers
    Bronson

I see you got no response. Perhaps the time of day you posted. I'd suggest doing a search, both of this site and of the web. That's what I'm doing as I want to install a better intercooler on my 300TDI
Good luck with it, and perhaps someone with more to say may pop up yet.

There certainly are benefits with the fitting of an intercooler.
However, to reap the full benefits of fitting such, you would need to have your engine/ecu "retuned" to obtain the full advantage.

Benefits are incremental. As you are already chipped as stated, the IC will further cool the extra air/fuel charge that the chip will allow delivery of. So you'll definitely notice a benefit straight out of the box. Depending on your application there are others mods that can be done too. I've heard good things about Allisport.

If you have a pre up date D2 then the D2a intercooler is a cheaper alternative offering better cooling....

Whilst this is true, having done this replacement, if I had been able to afford the Allisport I would have fitted it once and for all.

    Hi mate,

And is this something you have done? What map are you running etc and what sort of figures are you getting with this mod?

    Thanks

    Not quiet.

The D2a intercooler is an improvement over the D2 unit, you are correct on that.

The aftermarket intercoolers are however larger again allowing more volume and cooling. They are a worthy upgrade for a D2 and a D2a.

    G'Day Luke.
No,it isn't something I'ver done, but I believe that the standard ECU is designed to control the standard/factory engine as built in the factory.
If you are going to modify the engine in any way, exhaust, intercooler, injectors or whatever, then the ECU should be modified/recalibrated after these mods have been done, so that it knows exactly what it's actually controlling.
The basic B.A.S. "map" can produce about 160HP & 450Nm, from memory.
To be quite honest, I haven't had much experience with diesel engines at all, mostly I've been involved with GM V8s. In those cases, the engine is modified, camshaft, heads, capacity increase, exhaust, then after all this is done, the ECU is reprogrammed & the car is tuned on a dyno to get the optimum performance from the engine with the modifications, whilst at the same time making sure that safety parameters are not exceeded.
    Cheers, Pickles.
