    Tm4 tranny temp.

    Hi crew.
First trip away in the new disco after fitting the TM4 watchdog. On the hwy the tranny temp is about 70 deg. All good got driving around Camberra in the stop start traffic and hills and the alarm went off and temp headed up to 98. I have the sensor attached to the Xyz switch. Is this normal? Cheers Matt

Hi Mattg, they do get hot in continuous stop start traffic (ie central Sydney on a hot day) I nearly freaked out when mine climbed into the 120's on the big hill upto Shannons Flat out of Canberra, (600m ascent) but as long as its not sustained there should be no adverse damage. Mine cooled down a fair bit when it was under less load down hill to Adaminaby. And it was roads I had done pre the TM4 with no notion of the temp of the auto
I fitted my TM4 after about 3 years of ownership, i wonder if I have just given myself something else to worry about . But its all good really, just another early warning system if something does go horribley wrong

Given the propensity to get hot, I would be filling the trans with a ZF approved full synthetic like Castrol Transmax Z which does not degrade with heat as much as a non synthetic.
I have done that on my D2 and the RRC before it. My RRC was perfect at 240KK.
Also drive as much as possible in TC lockup.
    Regards Philip A

Is it correct in the nanocoms that once you have gone into the auto trans it refers to trans temp as eng temp in the inputs/outputs.

No, it really is the engine temp.

Then where is the tranny temp readings? I am fitting a tranny cooler this weekend and just wanted to post the temp comparisons over the same drive/environment.

The zf auto doesn't have a temp sensor, so there is nothing to display. The auto ecu calculates warmup from the engine temp. This is why people fit aftermarket gauges like the tm4.

Well how about that, kind of wish I had bought the cooler with the temp sensor in it. I wondered why I couldn't find the temp readout in the nano com. Many thanks. Dave

We have both got to stop talking about it and pull the finger out.

Btw, i had my temp upto 155 a couple of times during a steep slow climb. I say slow because i had to stop alot to let it cool down. I crapped myself, but so far its still going
