    Another SLS problem

    Hi all...
Yesterday suspension went flat, the oldest airbag looked like the fault - so I replaced it. Suspension inflated correctly while the car was on stands, but when stands were removed, deflated again.
Pump seems to be working correctly - no leaks that I can find downstream from the compressor - two new bags.
However...some time ago I kicked up a stick and severed the plastic air hoses between pump and filter, at the exit junction of the interesting plastic box (silencer?). Effected a repair using epoxy putty and tie wire which fixed the problem, but i noticed yesterday that it has come adrift. I can feel air escaping from what I think is the inlet hose when the pump is running.
I am surmising that I might have sucked in some dirt and damaged a valve somewhere...(opinions?). I removed the compressor and had a look at it, but ran out of enthusiasm and went to play golf instead. Sorry for the novel, but I would be very grateful for any suggestions ....
    Regards and thanks
    Alan

It will have sucked in dirt and water for sure. Piston ring will be worn, and maybe the cylinder bore will be scored (it is PTFE coated). Cylinder unit comes off easily enough.
I managed to source a s/h cylinder on Ebay.
There was someone selling a replacement piston ring kit for a Jaguar (same compressor) on Ebay too.
I think you have to be lucky to buy new parts.
    New compressor is ~$600

Thanks Terry, I feared that it was a replacement compressor.... just what I need at the moment!
I also have to replace the inlet lines and the silencer (is that what it is called?). Do you happen to know whether I would have to replace all the way back to the air filter?
    Regards

Mine broke off at the silencer same as yours, I drilled and tapped a thread for a 1/8 inch x 1/4 brass hose barb then connected the hard plastic tube with a bit of rubber fuel hose. It is worth cleaning the filter, it is in front of the LH tail light unit. I didn't have to replace anything else.

Have a look at the cylinder, you may only need a piston ring.

    Cheers,
    Terry

Yes that is the kit I bought. Worked well with a good s/h cylinder also on Ebay. But I think I got lucky.
    About $120 all included.

Just thinking that if the cylinder is damaged and can be bought back with a hone.then the ring will be to small, can they make an oversize ring to suit????

The cylinder bore is PTFE coated, I think it would run hot and wear quickly running on aluminium.
