Aahh... profuse thanks - Tomorrow I have some time and would have investigated (pulled to bits) this item.....
I have located some second hand bits now so I can replace between compressor and filter. Considering compressor options.... and driving the wife's Freelander TD4 3 door in the meantime!
Regards and thanks to all of you who give so freely of your expertise.
Dehumidafiers canisters are avaliable on ebay. You just need one inline to the bags. They absorbe moisture from the air going in and get dried by the air coming out.
Happy Days.
by "dehumidifier canister" are we talking the filter behind the tail light which has the filter and the white balls of stuff in it or the plastic thingy near the compressor on the chasis,
I'm guessing the plastic thingy near (attached) the compressor.
This is one I found on a quick search.

I suspect that is the reason that i have had 3 compressors destroy themselves in 4 years.this canister is probably working to hard up here in the humidity,I just thought it was a muffler for the compressor,I think it recycles the air when it is dumped from the system when it levels.
been thinking of installing something like this
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 200TDi and 300TDi DIESEL FUEL FILTER HOUSING | eBay
without the filter, and fill it up with silica jell, then it becomes a service item at a couple of times a year.Making sure that the silica cant get to the compressor
3 in 4 years? Wow. Those things cost near $600 ea.
I'll be happy to show you mine once it's up and running. Your welcome to have a look now but it's only on the bench.
I have a Viar compressor feeding a small air tank. The compressor is turned on and off with a pressure switch. It comes on when pressure drops below 110psi and off when it gets to 140psi.
There is then an air line that goes the the location of the old compressor where there will be a 12v solnoid activated valve. This valve is connected up to the old compressor power. The the valve is powered it opens and allows air to go to the 2 sloinoid valves that feed the left and right bags.
It's pretty simple. With the Wabco compressor being very low duty cycle and pretty expensive, I dont know why more people dont do it.
Happy Days.
