We melted ours into a glob that ended up blocking the exhaust on heavy acceleration, thanks to JC to find it for me
Hey Folks,
Dropped off Smokey for a service ( not my usual place), I noted a "tinny" sound upon acceleration. He said could be a torque/ catalytic converter issue. Could an issue there be the cause of the sound and more importantly, if there is a problem, is it likely to be exxy? Thanks in advance,
Regards

Cat converter is a relatively easy and cheap repair. Just get a new stainless steel high flow unit and have an exhaust shop cut out the old one and fit the new one.
As for the torque converter, that's tranny out. If yours is a TD5 get one of the Ashcroft HD units (much nicer to drive). Often they fail and lead to transmission damage.
Maybe it's just the flex plate though?
Whilst the torque and cat converter are located close together on the vehicle, they're very different components, strange diagnosis that it could be one or the other, unless he just meant noise was coming from somewhere in that region...
Juries still out....needed to get new tyres first as it drowns out the noise. I'm guessing if they checked, they'd know if there was a problem,

Stevo, there are many other causes on a Td5 D2,(Ask me how I know)
A loose counterweight on the back of the transfer case behind park brake drum, transfer case LH support bracket tin shield where it runs close to the exhaust, upper heat shield above main muffler loose, downpipe flex broken, and if it has ACE then start looking at all the pipe 'packs' where they go through the multiclamps; I have found a bit of bluemetal vibrating around between the pipes and making an awful racket.
