Sorry, and to answer the question, it isn't constant, the temp on the nanocom. At least the engine temp in the engine section isn't. I found the engine temp in the gearbox section barely moved but it was hard to spot as I had no one with me at the time....
Ok, unwrapped all cables to the thermostat and checked. Rewrapped all after contact cleaning connections. Still the auto gearbox is reading about half the temp levels of what the engine is.
If it reading from the same source, then it's unlikely to the the thermostat.
I'll checked where the gearbox ecu is located and clean that....
Your engine coolant temp will effect trans lockup, engine has to reach a certain temp for lockup to occur...
you have 2 faults telling you there is a problem here
Engine is well at operating temp though. Dash and nanocom say so. About 88 deg last time.
I cleared the faults from the engine ecu and they didn't come back. I'll take it out for a drive.
Wondering, I'm starting down the line of the differences between the two 'engine temp' areas from the nanocom but know the auto has a temp sensor in the cooler. In any case, I'll replace the engine temp sensor. I've read the oil temp sensor goes but that usually registers a fault on the dash of over temp. I've never seen this light up.
Reason I mention the above is that I haven't been on the freeway since cleaning everything and resetting faults. I'm assuming it will still not lock up as the gearbox and engine 'engine temps' still differ.....
They shouldn't read the same, one is for the trans & one is for the engine.Quote:

Hawkeye gives me 2 sepaerate temps as well & my lockup works 100%
Offtrack (Paul) had mentioned that they are both for the real engine temp.....but I must admit am starting to question this. Makes sense that they are different despite the language used in nanocom.
But then a read that the normal operating temps for the auto are 66 deg plus......mines hit 52 max and from memory that was whilst towing.
Sorry this could be wrong, It got the better of me & I just went for a run, Hawkeye Live data in engine mode & transmission mode both gave me the same temperature readings....Quote:

Ok thanks a heap for checking. So I'm on the right track. I'll replace the temp sensor.....can't be that expensive. I won't touch the oil temp sensor as it's not part of the circuitry I'm interested in.
Sound so basic like a component that acts as a multiplier......

Cheers for posting this (OffTrack goes into detail with that thread - love it). I really appreciate it. I don't think it applies as mines a 2003 and always had the NNN......BUT...
I had all sorts of issues with not being able to clear faults with the first map that was put on to the ECU. Nanocom or Autologic couldn't get rid of them. I eventually received an updated map based on the original map of my ECU and all faults went away and when they appeared, could be cleared. So given this, it does get me thinking. Maybe I should try the original map so see how it goes.
In any case, went for a drive this morning for an early morning beach swim and noticed some things.
On the way there, lockup was fine. The gearbox reading of the engine temp was 53.2 and went to 54.0 at times. Didn't seem to make a difference. Solenoid 3 changed from off to on and lockup occurred. There are only a couple to opportunities to lockup on the way to the beach and on both, it was fine. On arrival, no faults for engine were found.
On the way back, however, and solenoid 3 went to ON when correct speed was met but lockup didn't occur. Pulled over to check engine ECU faults and there were none. Took off again and the same thing happened. Solenoid 3 went to ON and didn't lock. gearbox engine temps were the same, 53.2, however, went to 55 at one stage up a hill.
Back to OffTrack's thread and I find it amazing that I had the exact same faults as him in that order and both ECU's have been remapped (he's since changed his from what I can gather). I think that the faults that were logged on my engine ECU are not related to the issue I'm trying to solve. I check the ECU for faults from time to time and don't get these. And I hop on to the freeway almost every other week. So they may have had something to do with what I was doing in regards to cleaning etc....just a thought.
