Td5 Auto lock up and resetting adaptive values

This ones been plaguing me for a while.

Td5 Auto. Normally, the first time on the freeway after a cold start it will lock up no problems where it should, just above 80kph. Slowing back down or stopping and hitting +80 again and it won't go into lock up. There are no faults on any ECU (checked with Nanocom EVO2)

However, if I reset the adaptive codes, even while driving, it will go into lock very soon after.

Happens when towing or not. Disco is an 03 with 223000k's.

I have a Tombie Stage 1 (BAS??) upgrade and an Ashcroft Heavy Duty TC. Gear oil changed every 20 to 40 thou with the good stuff. MAF cleaned and checked regularly (Genuine, of course). It's always at operating temperature when it happens.

    So, what to do next?

ok, bit of a long shot here BUT just replaced xyz switch and that was One of the problems it fixed.Other probs were flashing MS lights, clunking into gear and slow changes. If you search around here you will find a posting on how to clean this switch.
A REAL PIG OF A JOB UNPLUGGING THE CONNECTION.

    (need hands like a fairy)

Hopefully someone may have a solution be fore such drastic action is needed.
    Merry Christmas.

Mate if you do have to clean the contacts be careful removing the white activation wheel , you need to rotate to remove.
    new switch cost upwards 600.00
    cheers

Sounds like a sound piece of advice that could save me some dosh...... Can't say I'm looking forward to working on the disco again, though. I haven't had to do anything in so long.

    Cheers..

Just went through all this myself, tried everything, MAF, lockup solenoid, new filter & oil, thermostat, eventually replaced the converter......
    Best of luck

Hate to say it but if your not getting any logged faults on the elec side then it looks to be mechanical.
Have you driven with the Nanocom hooked up, check the lockup solenoid is switching (solenoid 3 from memory) when lockup should occur...

Next i'd be looking for an auto-trans shop willing to hook up a pressure gauge & have a look what the transmission is doing when lockup should occur.
This can be another problem, Most shops just want to tell you the auto is on it's way out & needs a full reco, (pressure related) they will tell you this even on the phone without even looking at it.

Yeah cheers. I'll check the solenoid switching today and see what it's doing.

I too agree most just want to replace and forfeit the diagnoses.

Ok so hopped on the freeway to monitor the solenoid with nanocom, but it doesn't update the values. Might be a nanocom thing. I did note that in the auto box section the 'engine temp' was 54. I assume this is the box temp as the engine temp was 87.

So for now I think it's cheaper to just reset the adaptive values until it goes kaboom.
