Broken plastic expansion outlet on radiator

    Hi,

I've broken the plastic expansion outlet on the radiator, are there any screw in type fittings that can be used rather than throwing out a completely good radiator just for the sake of overcoming another rubbish design??

    Thanks

I've been investigating this stuff. I've got a leak where the screw for the fan shroud goes in the radiator. Have a friend who is a panelbeater and he swears by the stuff. Has even repaired a top radiator plastic tank crack with it.

Cheers for the response, just thought there may be a metal type screw in outlet that you could replace it with?

    Hello,
Mine broke when I had the head off, tried fittings and glue every type of glue. Fixed it in the end brought a new radiator....I was always thinking about it blowing off which it did a couple of times so now piece of mind. If you find a fix let me know I have a spare here in the shed then.

Is it the small 8mm or whatever size it is that goes from the side to the expansion tank that you mean or is it the main hose?

I broke the small fitting off mine just out of Alice springs and when I got to Alice I got it drilled and tapped and fitted a brass nipple. That held for the next 2 yrs till I fitted a new radiator for our Canning trip. I must add I had a low water level alarm so felt comfortable that if it ever failed the alarm would let me know before any major damage.

Can remember but am sure I used a 1/4 brass fitting.

    Cheers Ean

    G'day Ean,

Yeah that's the one, I reckon I'll prob get hold of a newie tomorrow. You would have thought they'd change the design by now....
I like knowing things are reliable so I can't have a semi fixed problem, but the brass option would def get you by for a while

    Cheers

    Luke
