Is the belt fitted correctly around pulleys in correct sequence?
I have heard , whether truth or or not people can have the belt snaking sequence fitted wrongly and it will go on .
I always use a diagram to fit mine.
Ah ....Mr Roverlord Offroad Spares ....I bought my last Contitech QH branded belt off you!!:p
Each to their own,but I won't use Dayco anymore..noisy and seem to last about half as long .
I am not sure how many Kms the disco drive belt has done. The sensible thing to do would be replace it anyway but are there any indicators I should look for?

Same thing happened to me on my D1 a few weeks ago. Q&H Belt had only been on for around 8000km but was sliced up into several smaller belts and some of which wrapped around the fan. The belt had wondered off the pulleys due to a failing tensioner. The tensioner looked ok and I had replaced the bearing not so long ago, however on close inspection there is like a fibrous gasket between the main alloy castings and it seems that once that wears out the tensioner does not return quick enough to take up the slack after high revs and ends up throwing the belt. Not sure how the tensioner setup is on a D2 but could be something similar.
As just mentioned, replace the belt tensioner, while it is off check the stud, they have a habit of striping the thread in the alloy, as the thread depth is only 1.5 x the dia of the stud, while standard engineering, it is a weak point when people over tighten the retaining nut.
Yes there was a batch of Dayco belts that were rubbish, in the last couple of years this seems to have been fixed.

haha wrong engine, I saw squealing belt and assumed it must have been a 300tdi !!! god I hate 300tdi belt squeak. Ok so the stud part isnt relevant, but still replace tensioner.....
300tdi belt squeak? Since when? I had better hide this from mine or it will get ideas! :D The only time the defender has squeaked is after a water crossing or the belt is on its last legs! Its all to do with the tensioners state.
