I put mine into the RHS because it was easier and the fridge then sits on that side of the boot behind the spare wheel. My shelves step up over the fridge but the deck height happens to follow the step in the rear door.
Hi all,
Just accumulating all my parts to begin plumbing in a dual battery system into one of the rear bins of my TD5. Battery box from Ark, Century Deep Cycle Battery (weighs a fair bit) I have Drivesafe of Traxide working on the cabling, Ive removed the r/h side bin wall and top when it suddenly struck me should I install to the left side or right side?
I'd naturally gone right side but then Im right handed, the left side has the OEM plug socket that I could supply straight from the AUX battery, but the right side is possibly less stuffing around laying in the +ve cable from the main battery and keeps the distance of cabling a bit shorter
Anyone already done this let me know your thoughts please?
Obviously once I start making cuts in the rear interior panels I dont want to retrospectively decide to go to the devils left side
Any comment appreciated before I make the decisive cuts

Plus if you have rear aircon the left side is smaller due to the aircon being installed there.
RHS
Easier to run wires from battery.
And it's the harder side to get to with the door open, so you may as well put the batt there.
I was thinking about a 2nd battery here but am now considering putting one in the compressor tray underneath. Has anyone put a battery here? Would it make for an easier install? Thanks.
Somone posted pictures a few months ago, but I wouldn't like to go through muddy water too deep.

I did briefly consider fitting the 2nd battery to the non used compressor position but I do take my D2 through rivers, so that could possibly end in disaster.
As soon as the loom and isolator arrive I'll be fitting into the r/h side bin position, cheers to those that posted![]()
I'm toying with this idea at the moment too. I don't like the idea of my 2nd battery on the outside of the vehicle although it is commonly done I realise. Trucks and vans seem to have them mounted externally quite commonly.
The other perhaps silly idea that I'm contemplating is to stick a 100+ watt flexible solar panel to the roof toward the rear of the vehicle. This should give me sufficient power to run my fridge as I drive. It'd be stuck on with some *really strong silicone*.
I'll follow your thread with interest to see how it works out for you.
Query - how do most of you run the second battery cables to the rear? Underneath the car?
sikaflex rules for external solar panels,,
[though the alternator will easily look after both while mobile--]
hopefully you dont have dual sunroofs
cables under attached to chassis,, usually in some form of shroud.
