If the motor gets to hot the computer drops the power to try to keep the motor cool the hotter the motor gets the more the power drops don't trust the temp gauge.

No mate. The smoke is only at startup and nothing much really.

... Have done the EGR also.

May just be that. It's to hot outside for my Brittish born fourby.
For the rest it runs well and I enjoy it heaps. If I do come to some other conclusion/ solution I'll be sure to post.

Thanks to you all for your ideas and comments

    power loss

My td5 is just the same. 43 c. today and when I took off at an intersection it felt like it was in limp mode.
I have turned off the rear A/C and that helps a bit.If I turn off the front A/C unit it goes very much better. I have it down to pulling hard on a really warm day. I wouldn't want to either.
    Regards, Nick.

Don't know how related it is but I have fixed mine. If you have a look at all the wiring across the front of the engine, some of my wires were stuffed. Have a look at my thread titled, Hooley Dooley. This may help.

Mmmm... I'll go have a look and report I if I find something dodgy there.

check engine temp as well as the hotter the egine gets (coolant temp) the less power it will make as well.
so combine high engine temp with high intake temp and you have a low hp engine (this is just going off my diesel experience havent played with td5 yet)

also might pay to check the atmospheric sensor if they have one if its reading you at high alt they will cut fuel (again dont know if they have one of them)
