My father's TD5 Disco was idling at Macca's drive through, when suddenly it started making drumming whirring noise (sort of) and conked out. Now it cranks but won't start. Apparently all the usual dash lights, nothing out of the ordinary. He fuelled up a couple of hundred kms ago, so wouldn't expect dirty/water in fuel. Could it be the fuel pump?
Any ideas?

Might have to do the "Air purge" sequence, not sure what it is but something like turn on the ignition and pump the accelerator pedal 5 ? times and then try to start, someone with TD5 know how should be able to inform you better, Good luck, Regards Frank.
The fuel pump is approx. in the middle of the tank, I have heard of people hitting the tank with a mallet and getting the pump to kick back into life.
I have never tried this, so not sure if its like the " left handed screwdriver"
But could be worth the short effort.
Cheers Ean
RACQ guy spotted a blown fuel pump fuse. After blowing 2 more fuses, we figured no point in trying much else. Reckons probably the fuel pump. Looks like a tow to MR Automotive
Not the fuel cut off switch? Bob

Ranga, a man of your talents, should be able to do a fuel pump. I know working the spanners is not your best attribute, but it is not a hard job and fairly straight forward.
With help and guidance from us you could save your old man a dollar.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

At the risk of getting repetitive as I send this link to anyone threatening to replace their fuel pump as its a great pictorial guide to easy replacemenhttp://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php'showtopic=54796t.
Good luck,
