Thread: '04 td5 coolant expansion tank

Hi, I have not personally repaired an expansion tank but I believe a product called Rapid Fix will do it.
I have used it to repair broken plastic dash parts and holes in fuel tanks.
It is a 2 part glue/powder which dries hard instantly, you apply the glue and then powder and build it up in layers.
I watched a video of how it can be used on YouTube and it is amazing!
They drilled a hole in a hydraulic filter and repaired it, then applied so much pressure that the whole filter puffed up like a ballon, the hose blew and the repair stayed intact.

Yep, already tried that after watching the video but after a few days it leaked again. It could have been partly my fault because they say you have got to reef/gouge out the crack .i.e. make it worse, which leaves you with a bigger crack if the stuff doesn't work so I did minimal gouging. If the product failed I would have turned a small manageable leak into a big one. Jury is probably still out on the effectiveness of rapid fix for the job

Hi, I believe the coolant tank changed with the Euro 3 compliant models, so 2004 D2A would surely be so?
Being that the coolant systems on these are fairly critical for the wellbeing of the engine maybe its worth considering a new one? peace of mind and all that, and I know they are shockingly expensive for a plastic container
