Hi guys. I have put my self into a stupid situation in my driveway.
I'm removing my auto. And due not having a Transmission trolley I thought I'd just use 2 trolley jacks. One under bell housing the other under the handbrake drum.
Complete mistake. The Transmission rolled off the jacks no damage was done. I was able to rotate it back enough to lower it down.
However I'm not wanting to install it back the same way.
I'm aware there's a platform jig I should be useing. The landrover special tool.
Does anyone have this jig to leand to me. I'm in croydon east Melbourne?
Or a fancy transmission trolley jack?
Ill pay someone for assistance. I have a spare car to get around in but it would great to have the tool some day this week.
Otherwise I might just have to separate the transfer case off. I was trying to avoid that.

That's a good idea. Ill see about hiring one.
The first time I changed a LR transmission, back before I had anyone to ask how, I used 3 stacks of wooden blocks and two bottle jacks. I raised the trans assembly an inch or two at a time, always making sure it was supported in two other places apart from the jack. Slow but steady and it never slipped once. I used handy rounds of firewood and offcuts of board, enough to remain stabe with a bit of sliding. Trolley jacks are way too unstable for this job without a dedicated cradle to grip the trans.
you can also use a long 4x4 beam and support it up on a set of muddies on top of a pair of 44's (or the window sills if you're very game)
then reeve in a quater ton chain block.
I have also seen this done with a boat trailer winch bolted to the beam using a hole bored through the beam in the center to make the crane.

Just occurred to me I have plants down the side of the driveway so a crane isn't an option.
The jacks are not the reason it rolled. Its a center of gravity issue. But I wwasn't useing any straps at all so yeah no support at all to prevent rolling off.
Since I got the thing out now on the ground. Ill try uuseing some strapes and see how it sits on both jacks tomorrow.
I did have success with useing 2 trolley jacks on my patrol auto. With out an issue. I thought the discovery would be fine.
