Thread: Auto cooler and oil hose for d2 td5

just completed installing a oil cooler with fan on the sls air compressor bracket.cut outlet pipe(lower pipe) between pipe secure brackets ,installed hoses with 2 clamps on each end.rubber hoses sleeved with pirtek insulation tubing. used compressor power supply wires for fan. removed compressor relay and used it to power up fan via a s/w.

cut the pipe to the oil cooler & installed external oil cooler with 7' fan under passenger floor. (mounted on suspension air compressor bracket) air susp. removed.used 1/2' transmission hose from pirtek with good quality hose clamps, no flares.oil is low press.used 1/2' copper plumbing pipe( from bunnings) easy to bend to shape required.oil cooler is a ford falcon a/c evaporator, pipe size 5/8' in 1/2' out. tm-4 temp gauge from british off road( forest glenn)
clamped to transmission oil outlet pipe to moniter temp.transmission temp under load( towing 2.9 ton jayco) runs 10 degrees cooler. now to wait for summer??

I spent a bit of time and a lot of money with auto transmissions specialists setting up an ATF cooler with flared fittings. It was a lot of money because it kept failing. You need to use an ATF cooler that will take the higher pressures that ZF transmissions generate in comparison to most other transmissions, about 120psi or similar. You will also need to use proper multibarb pressure fittings such as those from Pirtek, as just flaring the pipes and using hoseclamps doesn't leave a reliable solution.

I placed my additional cooler right up behind the grill and the ATF passes through the factory ATF cooler and the aftermarket one.
