    Flickering handbrake light

Heya peoples, talking about a 01 D2 my handbrake light is flickering, anyone else had problems like this ? or know where to start looking for the problem ?? I still cant find my rave CD since moving house.

I suspect a short somewhere but it doesn't always flicker on when I hit bumps/potholes and the like I can be just idling at a set of lights and it will happen so totally random and increasing in repetition.

I have tried pulling the lever on and letting it off doesn't seem to alleviate the problem.

Could this be indicating a worse problem than a short.

    Cheers Dazza

When you refer to the lever are you referring to the brake pedal.

If not put your foot on the brake pedal and see what you get.

Could be the spring for the brake pedal is not working and the brake pedal is resting on the brake light switch and bouncing around causing the flickering.

Sorry misread your post. if you are referring the brake light (red) on the dash it is the level in the brake fluid reservoir. Needs a top up.

The handbrake light is also the brake fluid level warning light.

Check the fluid level in the reservoir - it might be low enough that fluid movement is triggering the warning light.

Bazzinga.. Many thanks I checked the level this arvo leaving work and yep sure enough level is down.

I didnt know the light was dual purpose.

Luckily the mechs on base hooked me up with a top up of Dot 4 and no light all the way home.

Just gota work out what to do for the minor leak we tracked down, it is under the reservoir from what I can tell albeit very minor.

    Thanks again Dazza

You need to replace the reservoir seals. Common problem.

Not sure if there is 'How to' on this site but but another one. (Urban Panzer maybe)

I need to do it on my car and I have ordered the parts but just haven't had the time.

    Regards

Here's a 'how to' and it doesn't look like you have to bleed the brakes (didn't think it was needed anyway).

There might be a tutorial on this site but the search function is funky.

Just in case you want to do it for piece of mind (bleeding brakes).

Is your cap on the reservoir? Don't ask how I know.

LOL, nah its on. I have tracked down a small leak and will order a reservoir kit in the next few days.

Seems easy to change it out with the guide. The one and only leak it has ATM.
