I just thought that's how it was setup in the standard setup so that's how it worked. I'm surprised it wasn't a service part for the SLS then. It's life would be pretty short up here.
Especially as it's open to atmosphere. Actually re that, maybe a very low pressure check valve on the exhaust and if the compressor will draw against it the inlet. You can get ones down to 1/3 psi by memory. Should be ok to keep the drying chamber sealed.
Actually, maybe get an airconditioner dryer canister and mod so it can be easily opened and sealed, they basically use the same system but it's welded closed.
Open to the atmosphere? I'm struggling to remember as I pulled mine apart, drained the rusty water out of the cylinder and cut off the exhaust valve to see if I could reuse it.
I thought the compressor and the exhaust valve are at the same end. From memory I though it is pressuised. Air passes through it on the way to the left and right valves. Air then returns back throught it on the way from the left and right valves to the exhaust valve.
Sorry I thought it was the inlet and exhaust silencer/dryer/chamber and so drew/dumped air to atm. So it just cleans and dries on the way to and from the bags plus exhausts excess pressure, so the exhaust valve is secondary to the L/R bag valves which also open to dump air.
Yep. I stretching my memory now. It's a cartridge in the cylinder/tube that runs on the side of the motor. Mine was all brown from being so wet. You can buy them should you want to replace it but it's the compressor that gets stuffed first.
Your right on that valve setup too. There is 2 parts to filling or emptying the bags. It either turns on the compressor or opens the exhaust then it chooses which bag or bags it's adjusting.
Silica gel is in the cylinder above the compressor. I suggest that the compressor motor when it runs heats up and drys out the gel, moisture to back of car and out. Temperature under the bonnet would do similar.
Just for your interest.
The white round plastic thing on the exhaust valve end has this inside. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's just access to clean the exhaust valve.

These are the 3 ports on the exhaust valve end of the dryer cylinder.

One goes straight through to the centre of the left and right valves.

It sort of sits like this. The brass fitting is the port that goes straight though to the dryer. The push in port goes to the exhaust kind of thing about a foot behind the compressor box and then goes back a bit further. Mine was then just stuck into the chassis.

This button looking thing inside the larger circle is the one way valve into the dryer cylinder. The piston (compressor) cylinder is just on the other side of that valve.

It goes on the compressor like this.

The elbow port you can see here is the intake. It comes from the muffler sort of thing that sits about a foot behind the compressor box and from the filter up behind the tail light before that.

As you can see, mine was pretty well stuffed and hadn't been used for a while before I got the vehicle. It had coil springs when I got it.

Happy Days.
In other news.
My new setup works awesome and it's fast. I recon it's cost me about $350 but the best bit is I can easily replace any part separately at little cost compared to the genuine WABCO unit. It's heaps faster than the WABCO system and I also have a connection to inflate tyres.
Worst case I always carry a spare air bag and 2 x 4mm tubes with Schrader (normal tyre) Valves and a foot pump. I think those few things cover all bases with the air suspension.
Happy Days.
