td5 oil cooler mods?
Hi, I have been reading up on a few threads here about the oil cooler. I have just bought a td5, leaking coolant, and oil from near the turbo, looks like it could be the oil cooler, after reading that it is a common fault.
What options are there as I dont really want to be paying out a lot for it, and how easy is it to do myself? My mechanical skills are alright, but it has been about 14 years since I put them to use. I also don't have a workshop, so it will be done out in the sun and a sandy driveway.
Looking for a cheap reliable fix, maybe after market cooler, or bypass kit if its not required.
Thanks in advance. Simon

Simon,
where about's in Perth are you?
A photo or 2 would help people point you in the right direction.
there is a small coolant hose on the back of the cooler that often leaks and the oil leaks maybe from one of the turbo hoses.
there is also a plug on the cylinder head that can leak coolant its near the exhaust manifold
otherwise as Eddy has pointed out it may be the cooler gasket and o rings that need to be changed.

Thanks guys, after picking up the car I let it cool over night, & cleaned it off in the morning. I found the main 2 culprits. The oil from a loose oil filter. May still be a minor leak, but will run it for a few days and see what's there. The coolant came from the screw in plug behind the manifold. I have cut the webbing on the manifold with out removing as every thing else is fine, I have loosened the plug to make sure it wasn't seized, as I didn't have any thing to reseal it, I done it back up, and it has been fine since, sure it'll start leaking at some point in the future, but now, thanks to the manifold, it should only be a 15min job.
Very happy with the car.
