    Nearly over it.

I love this car, but at the same time I want to fill it with ANFO and be done with it.

I know that the harmonic ballancer will need doing soon, along with the SVS for the 3 amigo's, the clutch, ACE rams are leaking, head lining needs doing, has a water leak when it rains, head gasket needs to be done, fan pulley bearing is squeeking and now 2 of the windows have died( one up one down).

I need 2 things that don't come easy.
A week off and a few grand to fix it all.

    Aaaaarrrrgggggghhhhhhh!

    Will.

...or death by a thousand cuts...No just kidding. A bit of ongoing maintenance before they cause major probs is definitely the way to go...and as a result these trucks just keep giving joy. They still look great today - timeless shape. They are still an ultimate offroad weapon in the LR family with only mild modding. And they handle better than the old tech ought to allow onroad. They are more comfortable to drive than most new 4wd's too. Gotta love em.

    Cheers

    Is that all??
Thats all just run of the mill stuff,,

wait till it does really weird stuff like oh I dunno,, eating a valve spring,, or cracking the in roof sunroof bracket, or splitting a front bumper,, or dropping two liners cos you hit a particularly hard bump,,

your D2 hasnt even scratched your wallets surface yet,,

so I mean this in the nicest possible way--

I feel your pain, last 12 months:

    Leaking windscreen
Rust around bonnet hinge (another leak)
    Rear shocks
Aircon hose rubbed through on body
    Oil in harness
    Head Gasket
    Fuel pump
    Drivers window motor
    Both front door stays
    Front shocks
    Instrument cluster surround
    Tyres
    Battery
    Head light lenses cracked
    Rear door lock
    Front guard trim
Think that is it or I may just be loosing track

Love her to death but finance minister is loosing patience

Edit: forgot Top radiator hose and 1 full service and 2 minor services.

Just a bit over 50,000 kms done in that time with plenty of it off the tar so I am not to surprised there has been some repairs just cant get the wife to understand why it is worth it

Don't forget guys... These vehicles are now at least 10 years old...

Some out of pocket must be expected at that age...

Those fortunate enough to own them from new will know the full history, others are at the mercy of unknown previous owner behavior.

Aside from a few things which are disappointing eg. Head Gasket etc all the rest is wear and tear.

Low km examples are frustrating as distance would tend to suggest less wear, but time is also evil, and a low km example can suffer more from lack of use.

Even with the big repair I made to ours after the trip to Qld (big animal strike & subsequent cooling system failure) the D2 has cost less than buying a new one...

We got the D2 from my old man (he was 1st owner) for $20k in 2007.
I've since spent $8k in repairs (not including mods).

Comparatively: Since 2011 I've spent $36000 on leasing my D4 (not including mods)

Throwing money into the D2 via a good repairer or quality work yourself leaves you way out in front over a new unit!

    Chins up fellas!

This, this, and this!!! Yes I too have chucked a few grand at recon transfer case, ace bushes, this little bearing, that little rattle, but gods it now has a near new drive train, and the comfort is still impressive. Still amazed what I do in this thing.

    cheers
    Nick
