V8 running hotter after bullbar install

Is it normal? My 4.6 ran a fairly regular 86-88deg even on hot days. Now after the ARB bar was installed (no spotties yet) it runs 90-93. Especially noticeable on freeway runs.

    Thoughts?

My thought is that your cooling system was marginal and the very slight alteration in air flow made had a significant effect.

    Cheers

The same happened with my Td5. Always 88°C before the ARB bar, now 92°C. I then replaced all the coolant hose & fitted a new 88°C stat, but still maintains 92°C.

These temps are all via my engine saver sensor bolted to the head.

It's all new. New pump, radiator, hoses, thermostat, etc.

Been flushed and checked all good.

    That's why I'm curious.

I know from reading searches that most v8 temps are around the 90 mark and 88 was a little cooler but still it's a definite 5 deg rise

And looking at it, there's not a lot of reduction on the intake either.

I assumed more change would be at slow speed or traffic, but that's fine. It's the 80kph+ speeds where it rises.

Yep, possible as it bends the air differently.

Well. Heading down South with the outback swan on the back on Friday. Fingers crossed it doesn't go too high

Might hold off fitting the lights until after the trip...

The OEM thermostat doesn't fully open and allow full flow through the radiator until the temp reaches 96 degC. The engine systems management ECU also requires the coolant temp to be at least 88-90 degC to operate in "closed loop" and therefore become more efficient.... 92 degC is quite OK for the V8.

Okay. Today on freeway it's sitting on 88-90. Degree or two hotter. Running petrol today. It was LPG yesterday. Think the slight change is enough for it to raise on LPG as it runs hotter on gas than petrol.

    Interesting.

Although it's a p38, they've similar cooling system. It didn't make a difference with the bull bar and winch. Still 87 on the hwy wether is 10 or 45 degrees.

Well, couple of hours towing the swan, fully loaded and temp was the same. Low 90's. I'm happy it's okay.
