Oh yes what is with the 9/16 and 3/4 nuts and bolts?????
Metric tools just didn't fit....
Well the Disco now has Recon Auto & Torque Converter and Re-shim & Sealed Transfer case.
Went for a quick country drive to see how it goes now the Torque converter is locking properly.
On the way back I noticed a crack noise as I was on and off the throttle in the hills. I have always thought there was driveline slack and everyone here seems to confirm it as normal.
All I could find was some slack in the rear universal joint so I changed it with a new Hardy Spicer K5-A757. I greased the shaft and universal before fitting. Drive line slack is still there, firm gear changes are still there (makes driveline slack seem worse) but the crack noise has gone.
The old universal looks ok so here's hoping...
NOTE: I thought the Disco was going great not many could keep up, HOWEVER I got hosed twice..... Dam those 2 Amarok's were fast...![]()

Was the converter fitted to the box with the bellhousing upright
then held back on the splines as it was lifted and fitted
Not wanting to be a doom merchant BUT a D2 I have had the same
noise it happened a few times 5<6 times then lost drive,
splines to pump broken.
I'm sure it's not this. The Auto has been out three times at the auto place, Twice for previous owner and once for me.. Also has clunked many times on the trip and following day to get UJ.
First time pump failure,
Second time pump failure again and new torque converter plate as wrong one fitted causing pump failures.
Third time Torque converter not locking up
These guys would have been sure it didn't come back a fourth time on warranty.
HaHA, Landrover keeping you on your toes, They ordered 24 million of each in 1952, so still have a stock pile!!and 3/4 = 19mm and 9/16 = 14mm or so close will do in a pinch . But best to use the proper 1s.
Careful of a service center that makes the same types of mistakes in a row
Cheers Scott
Well there seems to be a change.. I reset all the adaptive values with the Nanocom.
First impression was it didn't seem to bang around changing gears as soon as I left home. I dropped into REPCO (diesel oil on special) and then took a drive along the new South Road Expressway.
During the drive I noticed that I had to actually concentrate on feeling the gear changes. There was minimal if any banging within the drive train on gear changes.
Gear changes under hard acceleration are near on undetectable.
Looks like the computer just needed a kick in the guts or should I say a reset.![]()
