    Gauges! what do you monitor?

    hi all,

I am thinking of installing a volt meter for the primary and auxiliary batteries a well as an ammeter to monitor the charging current from the alternator.

my question is, are there any other things I should install a gauge for to monitor eg, coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure etc. it would be really great if there was a digital unit that could cover all these but I cant seem to find one so I think its back to the 2" gauges.

also, if anyone has any ideas on how to mount these eg integrating in the existing D2 dash etc or pod mounts or pillar mounts that look the part in a D2, let me know or post a pic.

    Many thanks, Geoff

Have you seen the madman system? Monitors nearly all that except amps and second volts input.

    Here's my set up.

Mudpod fitted with Madman EMS2 and ancillary switches/low coolant alarm.

In this one I've refitted the EMS2 to a flush fit and extra switches now in place.

    Cheers

Thanks Guys (that's a nice setup iPom). I have had a look at the Madman EMS2 (am waiting for info from NATA) but for the cost of it from LRA, I might as well buy a NANOCOM and mount this to the dash.

    Cheers,

    You are welcome Geoff.

I have the Nanocom as well, I like the idea of the Mudpod and it sits nicely on the dash in my aesthetically poor eye.

Liam, a switch on the 12 Volt feed to the Madman from both start and aux batteries would cover it mate.

I was thinking just that when I posted, I am not that technical though. Can report if the temps fluctuate wildly whilst all seemingly well it is likely a loose earth connection. Oops!

Your setup does look good, I have the ems1 ex redbacks now duct tape up near the light, the Velcro failed recently during our travels.

Price up all those gauges and sensors separately and it would probably be more. It's not a cheap piece of equipment, but it's well worth the price.

Why do you have a separate low coolant alarm? Why not just use the EMS for that function too?

Scott, I had the low coolant alarm before I decided to go with a Madman. Low coolant alarm is also enabled in the Madman.

I kept them both fitted as I wanted redundancy in case one failed.....
