    Head Up Display. Opinions Please

    Hi,

    I have come across this.

I am looking for a cheaper option to ENGINE WATCHDOG or similar unit.

It seems to have several usefull functions including an automatic alarm with an engine temp of 115 Degree celcius.

It appears to be plug and play.

Any comments on this unit will be appreciated.

Another monitor with the ability to watch / alarm a whole lot more is the UltraGauge - a bit more expensive than the unit you are looking at but might be worth a look.

UltraGauge OBDII Scan tool & Information Center

PS: You can generally only run one OBD2 reader device though, so it is likely not possible to have both the UltraGauge and your HUD working at the same time.

    HUD

So does anyone have one of either of these or similar unit that they could comment on,
Looks like a simple way to get around various potential, (temp gauge), problems. I like the idea.

Spent the last 45 on Ultra Gauge website. Must say im impressed.

Thanks for the info FEATHER WEIGHT. I have sent them a Q about temp alarm which is the main reason I would like a gauge so if it does that then I have another 74 potential functions to play with.

Not to mention fault code reader etc.

There is also a vehicle compatibility estimator. IE we give it a year of vehicle and it tells you approximately the functions available to you.

    Again quite impressive

CHEERS again need to get to work

I'm sure I've previously seen comments somewhere here that the fuel consumption does'nt work on a D2 (and possibly some other functions too?) I also assume the speed alert is not gps controlled but manual input by the driver as speed zones change?

Speed control in the UltraGauge is vis the OBD. If the speedometer isn't via OBD (old school cable) it may not work, otherwise you should get (basically) the same number as the speedometer (interestingly slightly lower than speedo reading on the cars I have tried, which makes sense...)

The only thing I would say about it is that unless you will likely be happy with the default display / gauge setup (if you are not that type of person you will know! ), then the gauges are a little finicky to get setup.

Also the unit is really geared to be left in one vehicle. Swapping it means setting engine size and a few other things, and it breaks the life to date tracking.

Outside of that I am very happy with mine!

Standard disclaimer: no association with them, just a happy customer.

Do you have any pics of your install FeatherWeightDriver??
It would be interesting to see how it is mounted etc...
Does it show Fuel consumption?? Instant or distance to empty would be good... rather than relying on the typically inaccurate LR gauge...

Also Feather Weight does it have the over heat alarm?

And how have you found it for fault code reading.

    Very interested in hearing more.

    Cheers

PS I'm sure it says in your profile but do you have D1,D2 Defender ?

    as site says "Land Rover
    TD5
    2.5L
    Confirmed
TD5 2.5L engine Not OBDII compliant"

    Is that true?
