They are a great engine and if looked after, 4 to 500,00ks is nothing, mine was still going strong at 320,000ks when I traded her, miss my D2:(

I occasionally find hoses releasing coolant for no other reason than worn jubilee clips, loosen, rotate and tighten in another spot seems to work.
And yes they find their own level in the expansion cap. :)
td5 with a thermostat area leak?
ok first off the thermostat is in a plastic bottle near the radiator ona clip in the shroud with 3 hoses on it...
IF its not leaking from there and its leaking from below the top hose entry where most people think the td5 thermostat hides before they get shown its true spot its one of three things.
1. the hose is internally delaminating and the coolant is coming out past the laminates.
2. the inlet housing is internally corroded and at certain temps is opening enough to just leak
3. water pump seal,
it might also be a bolt on the top hose fitting corroded past.

Not top hose.
All hoses seem intact and no signs of failure only seems high pressure getting past the clamps.. That is why it has been suggested first signs of a head gasket failure pressurising the coolant..
Test for combustion gases in the coolant header tank, that will tell you.

If its on the drivers side odds are on the fuel cooler as previously mentioned.
you can cheaty check the system pressure by T piecing the bleed line from the radiator and putting a 20PSI gauge on a decent length of tubing in the system.
If it goes over 17 PSI the pressure cap is cactus and if after replacing it goes over 20 then your headgaskets going soft on you and you want to change it before it lets go

It can be fixed. It's likely to be a couple of o-rings at each end. Do a search on this forum, or speak to Mario (RoverLord Off Road Spares on here) and he can send you a kit, or you can buy a couple of o-rings locally and do it yourself. Just get the right sort.
A new fuel cooler is hundreds. Just fix it.
