Solid Front Diff - Difference between D1 & D2's
Gents....
Another difference I came across was the front diffs of the D1 & D2. The D1 I believe has the old solid Steering Knuckle, etc whereas the D2 doesn't, it has a more exposed setup with the CV/Uni(?) having a rubber boot. The rubber CV Boot still looked pretty well protected from sticks, etc, but it got me wondering is this an advantage over the D1 old school setup or not. Is there many reports of CV failures at all?
My experiences has mainly been with Suzukis and I know that when a Sierra Front CV lets go that because its the old school steering knuckle setup, that there is the chance of it locking up your steering as well.... whereas the Vitara's with the IFS front end and Rubber Boot CV setup, that when they break, u can still safely drive home with a broken CV & have no steering issues.....
Just thought I'd ask this question in my ever tiring quest for information.....
cheers...
