I have just pulled mine out today to fix it. Mine is a 96 Disco, I assume the problem still exists in D2s?
Tom.
My D2 has'nt been driven since New Years Day although i kick it over every 2 or 3 weeks and have given the battery a top up charge last month. Today i took her out for a fuel fill and to do some shopping and noticed weird immobiliser behaviour. Took me hours to finally figure it out and initially i was stranded at the Diesel pump for 30 mins checking fuses etc. Here's what happened....
unlock D2 with key fob > open door > key in ignition > turn key and she starts > drive> arrive at destination ( petrol station ) > switch off engine and remove key from lock > top up with diesel and pay > return to D2 > key in ignition and turn key > dash lights come up / fuel pump running but starter motor doesn't respond
> REPEAT> hmmmmm! no joy! > check fuses etc etc > running out of ideas I decided "lets start over" ........ > lock D2 with key fob > wait for alarm to arm > unlock D2 with key fob > open door > key in ignition > turn key and she starts >
and it'll restart as many times as you want
BUT if you turn the engine off and it's off for 5 minutes or longer I'm back to where i started. I been able to replicate the scenario a dozen times this afternoon. Any ideas anybody ??

I think that the D2 immobiliser cuts in if the car is left for five minutes without being locked as you said. I'm pretty sure this is a default setting from the factory. Mine does this too, except if i keep the key in or around the vehicle (such as in the garage at home)
I had a similar happening. Fueled up, car unlocked ,but I was in chatting to the attendent ,who I know, for maybe 5mins when I noticed a car waiting behind to use the pump I was at.
So its out ,key in , nothing, took key out, in and still nothing, I then pressd the lock/unlock and Bingo, fire in the hole and off we wentSo that is similar to yours but I have never had it before or since.
Cheers Scott
Tends to happen especially around chemists etc where they have the anti theft systems at the doors. The frequency plays havoc with the immobiliser.
Solution, don't park close to chemists etc and find another place to fill up.
Yep ..... That is what i thought was happening until i got home and still had it happening in my garage. I disconnected the battery for 15 mins thinking it might reset the BCU / ECU or whatever? but no joy. Will try the EKA code routine today and see if that gets things back on track.

Before you start to play EKA games, check your handbook (owners manual) in the section about locks and alarms.
I think your vehicle's locking system is behaving as it should and passive immobilization is occurring.
Cheers and happy Sunday,
