Seems I have a bigger problem than I thought. Just noticed that when I turn my window wipers on the power to the car stereo is lost for a second.

Clean all your earth points.

What lewy said The earth bus at the battery box is a good place to start. If at any time you turn on something and some item seemingly unrelated dims, stops, lights up or acts strange it generally means electrics are having a hard time doing the circuit and are looking for the quickest route home!
BTW, Was it working at all before you replaced the pump?

Are the pipes going into the pump the correct way around,Putting these in wrong can do funny things.
