I am becoming afraid about D2 reliability

Sometimes I agree about the reliability, just silly things like the rear door wont open sometimes for no reason, interiour lights sometimes dont come on, warning bong comes on and nothing shows on nanocom, go to start and nothing happens just switch it back to off try again and away it goes till next time, they like to have a bit of oil drippin, but then I go for a run to the bush for a bit of gold prospecting and the comfort and ability, fuel economy, driving postion wins me over again, as the other comments say parts are not any dearer than any other veh, but its the only veh I have ever owned that I needed to buy a diagnostic tool (nanacom) just to help me figure the problems, dont know if I would buy another one but my wife loves it and wants her own

That pretty much sums it up for me...... I'd prefer not to have that sort of worry when in the bush. It's ok if u know the ins & outs of them but when u don't, simple is better..... D1 for me I think.....

Gosh, I really hope you're right about the 'cheap' price... for when my softdash Classic runs out of brakes...:angel:

- Can live with the ABS light and possibly the TC/ABS not working... but am addicted to operational brakes... :eek:

if you ever want to reassure yourself of the reliability of your landrover.

goto a wreckers and count all thevehicles there and divvy it up into makes and models...

Currently at mt Dutton bay near Coffin Bay with no issues so far (touch wood).
Off to Steaky Bay tomorrow then Ceduna.
You would not believe Farm Beach here with about 50 old tractors to launch boats, as well as about 30 4x4 on the beach. One farmer has aBIG 4x4 tractor to pull a tinnie off the beach and it is a dead easy beach entry.

Point Avoid in Coffin Bay NP has awesome waves even in calm weather.

Just done my trip from mount isa to lawn hill national park... 320km+, 200km of corrugated road... Return without any issue, guess is down to how much maint put in and checklist on all parts each service come down to.

The only wrecker I ever visit is Triumph Rover Spares...:o

I took my D2 to some of the remotest part of this great country and made it back every time. I would buy another tomorrow and do the same trips again without hesitation.

Sure they have there issues, but for an off the floor 4wd they will handle a lot of punishment without much modifying.. I remember seeing a brand new L/C 200 in limp mode on the road to kalumbaru and he was trying to make it back to el questro to get it flat bedded out cause Toyota wouldn't pay to get it from where he was.

I see plenty of toyotas on the side of the road with the bonnet up around Darwin, but that might be because of the amount of them on the road.

As has been said, preventive maintenance is the key.

Where are you heading Phillip?
We are heading to Exmouth to swim with the whale sharks,then probably to Broome and back across the top.
Got caught in a wind/ sand storm at mt Dutton bay last night. Not fun at 2.30 am folding the annex over the camper after it blew out, grit in eyes teeth etc.
Now in Ceduna Big 4 . Luxury.
