Wrong, it's fine for aluminium, it's a HOAT.

CAT ELC is just the same stuff as Land Rover OAT with a tiny bit of, bugger, can't recall at the moment, but it's almost identical.

Personally I've switched to the Cummins coolant, been using it for over two years now in two vehicles, one with an alloy head, (Tdi) the other an alloy radiator, (Patrol) no issues at all.

Leaks! what leaks. Oh the leaks I got after just two days.
Made me fit my new rad that I bought from Mario & Heather a couple of months ago.
Also blew the oil cooler to bits when it was pressure tested.
All good now. I have been getting corrosion on the brass heater hose spiggots and the top rad. hose pipe to engine spiggot.
I have thought long and hard over this one and was told that a coolant made by a company name starts with N could be the cause of the leaks. I now have new OAT made for Land Rovers.
Time will tell.

I flushed, changed hoses and re-filled my system, with the stuff starting with N and I have leaks galore.

It never leaked prior to this. The guy who owned it before me had green coolant in it which I didn't know abut until I flushed the system.

He is a forum member and very good mechanic so it must have been appropriate green. The system seemed to be very healthy.

My mechanic had topped it up with pink.. So I had purple coolant. But he left the radiator cap off after the second service he did.

So I decided that if anybody was going to wreck my car it may aswell be me.

I thought I was doing the right thing when changing it all to pink. From Super Cheap.

We have CAT coolant at work and I will talk to the boss to see if I can buy 15ltrs from him and then I will flush and change to CAT coolant.

The SCA pink has only been in the system for a month.

Looking at your location I think we know who this is, and yes he is good.

NWTASD2.If your so called mechanic mixed green and pink together he needs his bum kicked. They go crazy and stuff up your cooling system.
I went to huge trouble to flush out ALL the green.
Having said that , I have had just the same troubles you have had in the change over ie.LEAKS..
I had no problems till I changed over.
This will not happen again as I have been told I am getting a big bag of hindsight for a Birthday present this year.

As I mentioned above the Cummins PG Platinum coolant as had another name change......

It's now known as Cummins TECinfinity extended life coolant.

Geez they make it hard....

So I had a look today at work.

We have 100tr drum with green 50/50 concentrate. No Cat Label....

The mechanic has put a sign above it that says FOR ALL GEAR.

We have 5 Hino and 8 Izusu Trucks. 12 Cat diggers 6 Bomag Rollers. And 3 Cat Graders. Varios Tractors and other gear ALL are Deisel.

I am assuming its good quality coolant. If it can be used in all these machines.

In the three years I have worked there I have never heard or seen a piece of gear over heat or have cooling system troubles.

The mechanic is in hospital.

So before I approach the boss to buy some..It is unlikely that he will know what brand it is. He has alot on his plate. He will just say its good for everything "Cant you see the sign".

I figure he will say sling him $50 bucks so a massive saving for me.

If I ask for some essentially I am asking for a favour this makes me hesitant to ask the office to dig out the invoice to see what brand it is.

Is there any other way to identify its origin? I feel positive about it as we use it in all our CAT gear.....

To add more confusion to the mix I see that the "N" brand now has a BLUE OAT coolant! :o Supposedly compatible with a wide range of European cars. Maybe a inkling about the pink stuff?
