The seal you are referring to is a Land Rover part - it's a metal washer with a rubber ring on the inside circumference. Best to replace with the genuine article!

Hey guys,
I just removed my drain plug to let some coolant out to fix a leak. Now I noticed it has a seal which I was unaware of. Is that seal something purchased or is it made from some sort of applied silicone? I have an ordinary rubber washer sealing it at the moment but it is not something I would trust.
Thanks.

Thanks guys.
That is not what I removed from mine. I had like a thin flexible seal. Lime it has been made from some sort of gasket silicon.
I shall replace my dodgy setup.

For future reference, you can look these up yourself (and answer your question) on Land Rover's Microcat - it's available free online at Microcat - Spare parts Land Rover catalogue in English - click the Spare Parts Catalogue icon in the lower centre (has a picture of some gears).
A smear of non corrosive high temp sealant will do just fine ..![]()
