    I think the fuel thermo is in the fuel cooler housing? You are correct in surmising the water heats the fuel, after all warmer fuel combusts much easier. However it also allows freeer flow in cooler climates, Not all places are warm like Aus! Some will not only freeze the monkeys off , it will fix the rest of him up too!
    However the water also maintains the fuel at a constant temp, otherwise it would eventually boil! And it stands to reason that a pump covered in fuel will run cooler than 1 thats not. To me its a good idea but I will let others fight it out at 500 meters with drinking straws!

    The fuel cooler thermostat only senses the coolant flow thru the fuel cooler end tee connection after the heater matrix.

    When 82c is sensed the thermostat opens allowing sub-cooled coolant from the radiator (front of cooler inlet) to enter the fuel cooler to cool fuel.

    If fuel in cooler is under 82c the mixing of the cooler coolant at the fuel cooler thermostat will allow the thermostat to close again.

    Fuel cooler only cools fuel. It does not and can not heat unless cooler thermostat is stuck open

    Mine still going at 210k, I let the fuel run down and usually fill when the fuel light comes on however by the time you get to a fuels station it can be down to 10 or less litres in the tank.

    Interestingly, I replaced the pump in a Hyundai Accent the other day, 285k kims on the clock and the setup resembles a Discos! Intank housing, with sender unit intergrated. I got a replacement pump only off evil bay and it fitted up and works! I see it as a dry run to replace the D2's shortly
