Hi Dave, sorry about the late reply (work gets in the way for playing with the Disco). Glass insulated tube electricians use for insulating wire in applications like ovens and stoves. You should be able to get some from an electrical wholesaler like Haymans. It comes in various diameters about a meter long.

Has anyone gone to the extreme of putting louvers on their bonnet, to release heat. I imagine it would only be effective in slow speed slogging ?

I was wondering about these myself. Whilst looking for heat tape I came across one of these. As for my OP, I have made the decision to refit the heat shield. No urgency though as I am sure it would not matter during winter.Quote:
