I moved my second battery to the rear because of the heat from the turbo and located my compressor on the second battery tray. But this was getting hot, too. No good thinks I. So I decided to build an enclosure with an 80mm 12 volt fan and pipe some cooler air from the front to blow over the compressor, which runs when engine is running. Now is much cooler (but still gets warm).

I hope the box does not catch on fire..... (-;

Better hope that little fan pushes in cool air through that pipe faster then the compressor heats the air in the box!

I think my compressor might have suffered some damage due to the heat. Mine is a Viair 380C which has a thermal cut-out. It managed to cut out a few times when I was filling my tyres last time and I'm not sure it still performs the same.
I have considered putting a vent in the bonnet but playing with under bonnet air flows can do all sorts of things.
After I opened the bonnet, the compressor stopped cutting out from heat. It works fine just keeping the air up to my SLS but running for 10 minutes or so straight, sitting next to the turbo gets the better of it.
Happy Days.
er, um,
there IS an exhaust hole somewhere,, right?

Might be worth checking the airflow after than mod, as PC fans push surprisingly little air around.
On a less serious note: What? No lighting?

I neglected to mention that there is no back side to the box (the one next to the fire wall) so venting is not an issue. Also, the box can be taken off in 5 seconds and I use the compressor with the bonnet open and box off.
In relation to catching fire, the paint is fireproof paint (which is why is not a different colour). I am sure the box won't start a fire but I concede it might promote one that's already started. However, there's plenty of other burnables under the bonnet in that case and I think (hope?) the additional risk is small.
An engine bay is a harsh place for a compressor.
Have a look inside the vent space at your back left quarter panel. There is plenty of room for your compressor there. Nice spot but you would have to run power there. The location was made for the rear fuel heater for European diesels
