The long leads are the recommended replacement, as the short lead units often have issues further up the line in the wiring. For more info see one of the threads I started in here about two months ago - has references to the part numbers and technical Bulletin from LR.
A short lead sensor would not take too long to remove and replace (longer than 5 minutes though even with two fully functioning arms). A long lead (doing the job properly) takes a lot longer as you have to run the wire all the way back into the cabin, muck around with the electrical plug connection and fit it in.
