    Found it thanks but the illustration does not really tell me where it's located.

    The sensor is fitted under a housing on the NS (left hand from front) approximately 50 mm above the engine block flange to sump at the rear of the engine.

    Having been on my "must get and carry" list this thread has prompted me to get one, as I have 190,000 km on the original.

    Has anyone heard good or bad on non genuine? I was looking at this for a bit over 50 bucks.

    I know that it is well advised to steer clear of non genuine fuel pumps, but I have never heard anything on crank sensor.

    Doh, no wonder I couldn't find it - I was looking everywhere in the TD5 section!

    As a backup, genuine or not would be fine. If genuine I would just put the new one on and keep the used as spare. The key to all of this is just removing and cleaning before the trip so you know what tools and how to approach on fly for crank sensor, starter and fuel and belt etc. Then again, with the experience gained practicing before the trip, it will never break down on those items cause its a Landy.

    Exactly where is the crank position sensor located, (Td5 auto), and what position does one need to contort to change it? (The diminuative diagram in RAVE doesn't shed much light on it.)

    Back of engine low near trans/flywheel. Wait for exhaust to cool..
