How to convert your ashtray into a digital engine alarm with arduino

I saw Simons ashtray conversion and thought I would share my work in progress.
The idea was for an arduino engine alarm with non intrusive (capacitive) coolant monitoring.
Having seen the cool things others are doing with arduino on Discovery 2 I reckon we are due some feature creep, I quite fancy adjusting the ACE speed level using this device as well but thats somewhere down the track.

    Bring it on

As the title says bring it on not an electronics buff but I can follow
Instructions I'm interested in the temp side of things but would
also like a simple set up like that for fuel pressure and oil pressure
Currently using one VDO gauge and two switched sensors for the
    pressures.
    Your set up looks neater.

The idea of a over ride of ACE with a rotary control would be worth
a try I love the ACE as is but more driver control would be interesting.

    ACE Control

    Hi,
The ACE control has already been worked out on here by graeme, don't know if he's still selling the units?
It wouldn't be too tough to program the arduino to mimic the signals, I just haven't chased the pins in the car yet. The unit is using the AD pins for Voltage and temperature sensing. Its the same to detect the voltage signal from the Oil and Fuel sensors, the awkward bit will be calibrating to your satisfaction.

Heres one that simonmelb and I have done recently not the ardunio but a bit more simple....

To give members a few ideas.

I was referencing Simons version in the title of this thread...
I would have done that in a heartbeat if I had seen that first, especially the 1/32 version for the cost and so little effort compared to what I have already sunk into this. Indeed having the ashtray panel CNC cut cost half of that!

But... this will have a display that will do a bit more, with dual voltmeters as well as Coolant temp, with coolant monitoring to come, as well as opportunites for ACE control too.
