are the 3 hoses attached correctly?
hi guys, long time reader short time poster. i need some help with my 1999 td5 d2 auto. has 330k on it, recently had 3 amigos cleared and didnt come back and i didnt even have to fix anything.
anyway the problem: i started it up fine yesterday arvo, drove to the servo after work and put fuel in it, got about a km away from the servo and it coughed a couple of times then completely died. turns over fine, not a voltage issue so i assumed fuel pump. towed it home and changed the fuel pump (put a single stage pump in it because that was all that was available, i intend to buy a whole new one off ebay, and yes its plumbed in correctly) and filter, after half an hour of bleeding the system and cussing at it for being so difficult to bleed it fired straight up, running perfectly. i let it warm up for 10 minutes, then drove it out of the driveway, got about 10 metres onto the road and the same cough cough dead.
the fuel pressure reg doesnt look to leak although there is oily stuff (possibly from rocker cover?) around it, could air be getting into the system at the fpr and causing it to die?
looking for advice from someone more experienced with these strange setups than i am. TIA
are the 3 hoses attached correctly?
2003 D2a Auto TD5 good Landy gone
2015 D4 probably the most amazing yet, why get a RR?
That's your problem. They are a 2 stage pump and there are no alternatives available to the average punter.
Common to have the high pressure stage fail and allow low speeds or idle operation with low operation only. An hour or so priming is a dead giveaway also.
Edit: curious as to what and how you fitted the other pump up?
3 hoses? there are 4 and yes they are.
the low pressure stage was blocked off completely, all it does is circulate through the filter so to get it going we blocked the hoses off inside the tank. we were getting fuel returning to the tank last night so there is definitely fuel getting to the engine. as i said it started eventually and suffered the same fate it did earlier in the day, dying suddenly, indicating to me that the fuel pump was not at fault to begin with
I had similar symptoms - I'd start and get about 2-300m down the road then conk out . It was a corroded earth lead join near the fuse box under the bonnet. The earth wire from the pump goes all the way to the engine. from memory it was behind the battery box and in front of the fuse box. Sometimes there was enough to keep the circuit going, other times there wasn't
When I first got the symptoms, I assumed it was a dead pump. I ordered a new fuel pump, drove around oz, then back to winter in Melbourne the symptoms returned after sitting idle for a few days in the wet cold.
I traced it with a multimeter on the mulitplug to the top of the fuel pump. Should have 12V. I was showing 5. All good since.
When you turn on the ignition, can you hear the pump whirring for about 30sec?

I hope you get this sorted as I only just posted about fitting a single stage pump, a couple of days ago.
I can't see why it wouldn't work however I have just been provided with a link to being able to replace just the motor in the standard pump setup which is a whole lot cheaper than replacing the whole unit.

Whats the link? Mine is just starting to get noisy. I was considering an in tank bosch pump for priming and an in line jobbie for the high pressure feed, but a replacement pump on its own seems easier!
And anyone used a goss ge320 replacement module? Any good? Or is it just another chineesy one rebranded and only going to give me 10000 k's?
Cheers
Ian
