Key sticking in ignition
Hi chaps. This morning I experienced difficulty removing my key from the ignition of my 2004 D2A. Rotates the barrel fine and everything works normally except that its difficult to remove the key after turning the engine off - I have to apply 3-4 times the normal force to remove the key. I have applied Innox to both the key and the barrel and have tried my other two keys, with no discernible improvement. Any ideas?

My d1 did this a week after I bought it the barrel was on its way out and eventually jammed up completely. Replaced with a new barrel can't remember how much as it was about 4 years ago.but not cheap sticks in my mind. Maby think about replacing it because it is guaranteed to fail in the worst place and time

Thanks Bushy. Did you have to change your keys, or can a replacement barrel be keyed to match your existing one ?

I belive it is possable to go to landrover and get the same one. I was in Perth away from home and needed one Saturday morning to get home back down south so I just bought a kit from the nearest parts supplier. Rover craft I belive. Hence my landy now has two keys not the end of the world but can be a pain in the dark

The "wafers" burr and eventually cause the jamming. If you're handy with tools it is possible to take them out, polish the burred edges and reassemble, but it would be good to have a little common sense locksmithing knowledge so that you leave the key in the barrel and tape it to retain the springs before they leap out.
If you go this way you obviously don't have to worry about new keys/remotes.
Quite a simple job when someone can show you how. Might be something on youtube (everything else is
).
You can even leave that damn steering lock pawl out when you reassemble it if you want to.

Might be worth a search here but I remember reading somewhere that an ignition from a D1 will fit a D2, you end up with a different ignition key and I think the steering lock won't work anymore, but they are way cheaper.
