Battery question. Disconnect or trickle charge?

The TD5 that was my daily drive is now out to pasture. As a consequence the battery discharges between trips to Newport hill where it is for sale.
Should I disconnect the battery or purchase a charger for it?
I currently drive it once a week to charge the battery but will be away for a month or more shortly.

If the battery is in reasonable nick, then a 150ma trickle battery charger (about number plate size) should keep it charged. This is what we use on a 4wd that is used about once every 3 weeks for 1/2 hr or so. Put the connectors onto the battery, not into the power plug/ cig lighter. Btw: if the car isn't run regularly, I'd recommend a proper charge using a good electric charger.

I would look at getting an automatic charger with a maintenance mode to cycle the battery and preserve it.

Yeah, trickle charge. Disconnecting wont do much for the battery life really.

Btw: I meant a solar panel trickle charger.

Lots of people (I include myself in this until going to an SAE presentation on the Chevy Volt) still don't understand how the chemistry even in the basic car battery and how in car charging has changed. Charging algorithms and negotiations between ecu and bcu. So they buy cheap chargers.
