    Steering damper

    G'day all.
I have recently changed all 4 shock absorbers on my D2a as they were completely shagged. They were the originals though.
So today I removed the steering damper and it had no rebound, so I thought I'd replace it too. Bought a new damper and the new one also does not rebound. Is this because its a damper not a shocky as such? Should it have rebound or have I bought a dud.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Robbo

    Steering damper

If you mean "it does not self extend" then that is quite normal for a non-pressurised shock.

Emulsion shocks don't self extend either.

Being a steering Damper it should:

    1. stay any length it is moved to. (unless self centring - Spring)

    2. have the same resistance both compression and extension.

    If not it's a dud... :-)

    Thanks Mike.
Yes, it does not self extend like the suspension shocks do. So are steering dampers "non pressurised"?

I seem to recall that the Bilstein units self-extended. Might be wrong and confusing them with the shocks now as I've installed a few in the last few years...

They do, much slower than the shocks of the same name.
