To me it sounds like the new key may have a flat battery or be faulty.
Does the red light come on when you press the button.
I have bought on ebay a cheapo RF detector, which you put your key next to and press the button and again an LED lights up.
Another possibility but hopefully not is that the key is the wrong frequency. The frequency changed in 2000?.
In my case the RF receiver in the roof was cactus, but as your old key is working this is unlikely.

I don't understand the other key code being wiped, as on my naocom it just adds one up to AFAIR 5.
    Regards Philip A

Remove any codes that aren't relevant to the keys you have. Auto detect the key you have that doesn't work and confirm the code. From there you can manually add the code for the key.

I did one recently for someone and it just needed to be done in the right order to make work.

I hope I'm not highjacking too much, but seeking clarification from Clubagreenie, when you say " Auto detect the key you have that doesn't work and confirm the code. " Are you saying confirm the code he presumably already has/came with the key, or just confirm the code that appears? Plus is it the six digit code, or a longer possibly alphanumeric one?

The reason I ask is that I have a new key purchased from a member on this site which has no external code attached (unless the 6 letter code reputed to be inside the Valeo case - not yet checked - is all that is needed).
I've been told by an LR guru who has a Rovasomething that we can't program the key to the car. I have an Evo, albeit no expert at working it, but can follow instructions/u-tube etc). Cheers

I've had no problems coding a new key using the nanocom evo. Followed the YouTube vid and instructions from the nanocom website ( such as they are). I watched the video a few times and then had a wander round the screens of the nanocom evo first to get comfortable with it all.

The 6 alphanumeric on the back of the circuit board is all you need to code the key.

Gavin happy to help if you need a hand just let me know.

    Cheers

    Steve

Thanks Steve -just might take you up on that and it's my turn to provide the hospitality. It was our local LR mobile guru that threw the curly one, and I haven't had a chance to recheck/clarify with him before I start pulling my fob apart - once I remember where I've hidden it. Hopefully it will have the alphanumeric inside and all will be well.

    The Evo works fine.

You can auto detect the key, this will confirm it's the correct frequency and it's working. From memory it should appear in the list if there's an open spot. You'll need to know the code on the sticker inside to confirm which key is which.

Well an update for all that helped I finally got it to work don't know how but I did update the Nanocom to the latest v1.24 may be that did something anyway its working now also my old key was worn and sloped about and you had to jiggle it around and hold your tongue to the left to get it to turn on but when I got the new key cut the locksmith cut it a frag higher to compensate for wear plus added a piece of clear PVC about 7mm long push over the key till it bottomed on the fob and now you just push it in and turn, it so good I use to hate removing the old key because I knew one day i am going to lose it and snap the key off.
