I'm wondering how 'constant over filling' can affect the float switch.
If it's not filled it's under full .
I fill it to the neck.....what do others do.
ps.....filling it to the neck in some servos can be a pain the arse due to foaming....am I alone in this?
Nah mate I'm the same.
I fill it until it clicks then I will wait 30 sec then I will continue to fill it slowly until it clicks again and she's full. We went to the Gold Coast recently on a little under 3/4 of a tank. 95 liters capacity as according to the book. I never run until the light comes on due to the temperature of the fuel. If you have a Nanocom, you will know where I'm coming from.

Robbo
Same here. If I stop at the first click I can be 10-20 litres short of the tanks full capacity depending on how much foaming I get.
Filling mine to absolutely full, I have put over 96 litres in on a few occasions as I always fill it to the brim. I generally only go to Safeway fuel, for the 4 cent discount. I have put that amount in on several occasions and at more than one service station.
If the tank has a 95 litre capacity, is that to the top of the neck?
Cheers,
Jason
LR say not to fill to the top of the neck, so your experience that you can get 96 litres in (and no doubt still have a litre or so in the tank) would confirm you don't need to fill to the top to get 95 litres useable.
On two occasions I've run out of diesel .... It doesn't help that the fuel gauge gets to half way between 1/4 and Empty when that happens (with NO low fuel light btw - it illuminates at ignition ON with the other lights). My fuel gauge appears to be off by 1/4 of a tank ... Ie: Gauge goes from above F down to F at approx' 180-200km, then drops a 1/4 per approx' 150-170km .... When I get to 1/4 tank left I'm on reserve by my reckoning. Average tank range is 800-850km.
So on the two occasions I ran dry, I put in 5L and drove less than 1km to a servo and filled ... to the brim by squeezing in the last 10L or so ... And on both occasions I put in 90.85L and 90.01L .... considering the fact that I brimmed the tank, there must be a few L left in the tank that's unusable.
I once drove 926km and put in 88.13L ... Then the return trip was 954km and put in 94.51L ... That was a nail brighter
