With 290K on the clock it may be more than a transmission seal. The early ZF22 transmissions usually start giving trouble around the 250k mark. It will cost around 6 to8K for a rebuild walk in walk out.
Hi All,
I am currently the owner of a 95 300TDI, but I have recently been offered a 2000 TD5 for $4k (although this is negotiable).
It has a bout 290k on the clock, with ARB front bar & Warn winch. It looks pretty good in the pics that I have been sent too. The big issue is that it apparently has a stuffed front transmission seal. I am not very mechanically minded (can do a few basics) - just wondering what sort of cost this may run into to fix? Obviously I plan to take a closer look before I make any silly offers
:-p
From what I have been told the TD5 has more power & torque than the 300TDI, with similar economy (which would be great on the daily commute). Advice please?
Cheers, Paul.

If it is just a seal it will be box out job so probably 6 to 800 at least i would think I would be finding out from the current owners if the trans has already been replaced or if it is the original
