    Roof replacement $?

    Hey All,

The roof on our D2 is knackered, some rust coming through at the front and the rear above the door has been battered on something at some point (this is the wife's car). Has anyone had their whole roof replaced and what sort of cash did it cost? Obviously these cars aren't worth a whole lot of money anymore, so I don't want to overcapitalise, but I would like it to be fixed if it's viable.

The rust seems to be related to having had the roof replaced (by insurer) about 8 years ago after hail damage. It was done in the NT so I hold out no hope of using the 'lifetime warranty on repairs' from the old insurer.

    Thanks in advance.

    Adam

Lifetime warranty should cover it regardless of where it was done.

I just took my insurer to task over the auto that was replaced after improper refilling after accident damage. Since it was replaced under insurance it, the tfr and winch also now have lifetime warranties.

    WHICH MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!!!

Yeah, I've been through the process once before. AAMI don't acutally deal with it, you have to deal with the repairer yourself. With the time I spent dealing with the issue it would have been cheaper to pay to get it fixed, and the job would have been done properly.

I will chase the repairer, but I really want to know a rough cost to replace the roof, so I can make a decision about how much effort it's worth.

You need to yell at AAMI more. They're my insurer too and getting to the right people is the key. Get it to an assessor if they have a centre local to you, explain that you're a few thousand miles away from the repairer but if they want to pay the bill to ship it back...

I would of thought that since your the customer of your insurer, and your insurer have sub-contracted to the repairer (they paid them, not you), it's up to your insurer to deal with them, not you. I'd be pushing on them harder personally.

Exactly, you pay the company to deal with that crap for you.

A tree fell on my disco 10 years back and the repair job was not good enough. I went back to AAMI who reviewed it and took my car off may hands and then sent it back a day or two later. They took the initial repairer off their books for the poor repair ad the repair was done by a more professional repairer.

It is AAMI that gives the guarantee not the repairer so take it up with them first.

Thanks everyone for the advice about what I should do. I really just asked for a $ figure to replace a roof, which I got from Sniegy - so extra thanks for that.
