    What differences between D2 and D2a v8?

    Greetings all
As a very satisfied owner of a black 2000 v8 cloth trim 5 seater with TJM bull bar, an ECB roof rack, reversing camera, three amigos properly fixed, new front prop shaft, brass bungs in the diffs, and aircon drains extended, BUT no ace and no cdl (t/c blew and I got a non cdl one fitted ps check seals and fluid levels on a 110kmh trip towing a van and stop when the red light comes on), I am interested in changing to a D2a v8 with ace or a D2 with ace.
I know about the front and rear light differences, as well as the instruments. What else is there please ?

PS thanks to all for your great posts. I have had four RR classics and one SWB S2 but love the D2 best of all. It does the business quietly and unobtrusively like nothing else. Plus my wife enjoys driving it.
    cheers

    Hi

As far as the engine is concerned, not much. SAI was in the latter, from the NAS models.
I have read, but not seen proof, that the last of the V8's we're not as good as earlier years because the tooling was so worn out.

    I too have a 2000 V8 ES, great car. I love ACE.

Just be watchful on post 2002 models as for some reason the interior specs are a lot less than pre.

    Cheers, Jerry

Mate stick in CDL and your set. The biggest thing towing is good non squirmy tyres (short wheelbase needs a good set) and good springs and shocks. If you run strong springs and shocks they tow well. I tow quite a lot and various loads up to 13m and just under 3 tonns.

    Cheers

The very last of the D2A V8s were high compression, and if you have free petrol ( because they call for AFAIR 98 octane) , were according to a colleague who owned both considerably more powerful.

The front suspension is different between D2 and D2A, as the panhard rod length was changed. I find the D2 excellent so I don't know what it was meant to achieve.
AFAIK thats about it except for headlights and taillights and of course the CDL. The traction control/ABS computer is different because it allows for the CDL.

I use 91 octane and I haven't had any problems. They do have a badge inside the filler flap "Premium Unleaed". Ignore this.

I have also used 98 to see if there is any noticeable difference and there wasn't.

Aside from this there is some in-built computer smarts to compensate for the quality of the fuel (this is noted somewhere in the workshop manual).

    Regards
    Andrew
