    rebuilt my injector harness yesterday

I kept my injector harness hanging up for a year to drain , so last week being a bit mingy, I thought I would rebuild it to try and prevent oil in the main harness.
What I did was cut each wire , all except number one inside the plastic shield, which just prys open. Then I hit each end with contact cleaner , and soldered the stump on the engine harness side. I then placed crimp connectors on the soldered stumps. The next step was to crimp the injector plug end but leave an open bit say 1mm long out of the crimp connector. ( BTW the crimps I use are non insulated high quality US crimps and a quality pair of crimp pliers)

I then covered the crimp with quality heat shrink, and sealed the main harness end with liquid electrical tape. I left the injector end a bit open by not heating that end as much.
This should cause any oil wicking to hit a dead end at the crimp.

BTW you only have to do 6 wires as the earths all join to become a common earth.

I then removed the plastic cover on top of the plug and "potted" the plug using Araldite, making sure to include Araldite around the entry wires.
I checked continuity of all pins to injector plugs.

Conclusion. After all that I didn't find any evidence of oil wicking up the wires from the injectors. Whether this is because of the year draining or that there never was wicking I don't know.

However I am pretty sure after doing all this that the problem is not oil wicking up the wires , but oil entering the top of the plug through the plastic cap which is not sealed, running down the pins in the plug and then into the main loom.
Next time I open the engine or if I have a loom problem I will replace the current injection harness with my modified one.
So don't just chuck it away and buy a new one which may have the same problem.
    Regards Philip A

What a brilliant idea. Time to dig out the old harness. Knew there was a reason I don't like to throw old parts out. (-:
