    auto gearbox loss of power overtaking

    Hi

    previously a landy series and defender owner, I now own a disco 2 2003 auto which I have limited knowledge about. The only reason I know about series gearbox is I have replaced heaps.

    the problem Im having is when I go to overtake and put the foot down a bit, the disco revs goes up but will not accelerate. This has put us in some hairy situations.

    The disco have 240k on the clock and from posts on aulro, it appears the box should be ovehauled by 300k.

    can someone shed some light on if its a electonic problem, fluid level or gearbox fault and is there a solution.

    Bit hard to provide advice on the level of detaul provided. I'd start by checking the auto fluid level. Need to do this with the engine running otherwise lots of fluid comes out that shouldn't. If this is OK, then check what the quality is like- red, burnt etc. It could need only a filter and oil change through to it being on the way out.

    Diesel td5 engine. The engine and box are standard but its had a storm kit from lr automotive in melbourne. Lift kit with bilstein shocks and springs, air lockers, axles, winch, snorkel, spot lights etc

    I have had that issue twice before,
    First time it was the autobox cooling had become blocked and it was starting to cook the fluid.
    Second time it was the boost modulator constantly bleeding boost to the intake, so the wastegate never opened, causing the engine to over boost and the ecu cut the power. On the flat it was very obvious the engine was being retarded, but if I was on a hill the car would rev out to 4K without an issue but barely do 40km/h.

    I'm guessing you got fries (bigger tyres) with that too? If so the bigger rubber and standard engine would explain the slow overtaking.

    Thankyou for the feed back. I believe its a combination of low trans fluid (has slow leak) and having the bigger tyres. I will top up the fluid and thinking of getting second set of tyres for around town and highway driving and save the bf A/T for off road and camping.

    Im also considering a chip and remap the ecu

    Yep running 285 bf A/T. When bought it had 305 muddies but it howled down the highway and chewed thru the fuel.
