    D2 auto not happy

Hi guys I have had my td5 auto rebuilt 2 times in the last 3 months the 2nd time under warranty I have done about 1.5k since the last rebuild and it is now starting to suffer the same symptoms again ie when coming to a halt backlash occurs as the auto changes down it is only minor at this stage and only occurs after travelling for an hour or so. It makes me think there is something else going on to make the auto begin to fail. Any comments advice would be appreciated
    Cheers keith

My Auto has also been recently been reconditioned.

My Transfer Case has also been re-shimmed and sealed.

I also noticed backlash when slowing down and especially at roundabouts. Especially bad noises with the windows open.

I sought a second opinion from another Auto workshop that was highly recommended. The shop expert took me for a drive and diagnosed what they in the industry call gear change bump. His explanation is the Auto is fresh and gear changes strong like new especially as the adaptive values will have been reset. The rest of the drive train is 250,000 km old and will have some wear that is being highlighted by the reconditioned Auto. So my Auto has been given a clean bill of health.

Since continuing to drive, the adaptive learning has smoothed out the gear changes somewhat. I also noticed after a rear axle & wheel bearing change the backlash is almost gone. Far as I know the rear axles do wear (why there is heavy duty ones available) and my Disco has been used to drag a caravan around Australia by the previous owner so explains the rear axle wear.

    Hope this helps.

thanks Kim that gives me some assurance but I am concerned that it is more than transmission bump so to speak the vehicle has done 210km and I have owned it from the beginning with the occasional towing of a boat but that would amount to about 5k of the distance travelled. I would like to get a second opinion when I go down to Sydney next week any recommendations as to a good auto transmit ion place I could take it to.
    cheers Keith
