Thumbs up disco td5 manual...starting difficult

hi, my td5 has done 240,000k and recently it became difficult to start mainly when warm. it spins very freely on the starter and when it fires sometimes it seems to fluke the correct spot. after that its perfect again ,idles and accelerates as normal with the davis chip. has anyone had a simular problem or could it be the timing chain and can that be tensioned . cheers

Check your oil level to see if it's rising, might be the injector O-rings leaking.

Sounds like it's had it. I think you should give it to me. I want to convert mine to a Manual.

as a simple start replace the air bleed valve(WJN500110) in the filter head's rear outer connection...maybe you are lucky, even if not it's not very expensive and won't hurt anyway, if you have the chance plug in a tester and see on live data if the fuel temp sensor works or not, this one if it's faulty can cause difficult warm start otherwise you dont notice it, check it's plug/wiring too, it's the one in the FPR

I just replaced that part in mine.Mine was difficult to start after sitting overnite or longer. Was normal to start once it had done the initial morning start.
I did also put the standard ECU back in,so until I re-fit the tuned ECU I cant say that the air-bleed fixed the problem.

I am surprised that even Landy mechs dont pick up on this . Over the the span of several months of this I was to replace "faulty" fuel pumps twice , recommended to pull the head for possible cracks, dodgy FPR , worn injectors , and the usual copper washers. In the end out of curiosity I replaced the entire filter housing from a known running vehicle. After two years not a problem. Other than the cost of a filter , the cheapest and easiest repair to be done. Still annoyed to this day that the money spent on pumps could have been used elsewhere.
