Rear Sus - SLS, Springs, or Polyairs?

My 2 cents worth I would say this..

I have tried to customize other vehicles to have sls suspension the problem u quickly realise is that on the sleeve style bag they are designed to ride at a certain height but they r way more forgiving if u add 1" up or down also they are a lot more comfortable than the other ballon style billow style or whatever u call them I have put in my rodeo ute ride quality is ok when at the designed height but u have to have strong shocks 1" up or down it turns to crap becomes bouncy ride quality quickly changes I hate it it was a waste of money and time, the only way that you could put in longer travel air bags is that if u increased the overall length from chassis to diff, but it's a big can of worms cause there r other facts also... On my d2 I have sls with 2" spacer problem with this is that really is that it's a 1" lift and the other extra 1" is u adding more air to the bags ... I would say the ride is outstanding with bilstiens 7100

X2 with full air suspension. In-coil bags and helper airsprings are a compromise.

I am currently looking at doing a leaf spring rear conversion to 4 link and full air on my work ute, using the D2 airsprings as they have a really great piston design/ profile, smooth ride yet quite long at full extension, and can carry a reasonable load. They are also easy to instal and readily available.

Just need the time now to actually do it....:(

I have read that the Rolling sleeve bag (as per d2) gives a better ride than the bellows style bag. Mainly because the piston that the bag rolls down over can be tapered or shaped to provide increase or decrease in spring rate as the bag compresses /extends.
The chap at Boss Airbags tells me I will notice no difference going to their triple bellows setup from the rolling sleeve, and, even if it were fractionally harder? Stiffer in rate than the OEM bags, I can only see that as a benefit, and will match the raised dobbinsons going in the front.

Is your rodeo a Rodeo or a Lowdeo?

Well I bit the bullet today and ordered the 2603 triple convolute bags from Boss today. Got trade on them so fractionally cheaper.

See how they go I Spose.

Wow, well I ordered my bags yesterday afternoon, say about 1ish. Well, they were on my doorstep at 8am today!!!

I've only had a quick glance at them, but they look to be pretty good quality, solid, quite solid, takes a bit of weight to compress just the rubber.

End plates are pretty basic, hindsight tells me I could of made my own and saved 50 clams.

Nevertheless, they are here, and I'm committed now. Will start building mounts in the next week or so.

You stated in post 14 that Airbag Man said that these aren't suitable in the rear of a Disco, so why are you using them?

A few reasons;Aairbag man don't sell Convoluted style bags at all, so, they may have a bias towards the rolling sleeve.

AULRO member Baffle has used these on his D2, there is a link to his thread somewhere, and they seem to work ok.

And since post 14, I have spoken to Boss and a few other people I've found to be running these style bags, and have no complaints. Boss tells me that they've had no issues running these in their D2 kit and their Patrol kit.

And I Spose the other reason, is I couldn't find any solid info on a longer sleeve style bag for the rear of the D2.

Anyone got any spring rate comparisons of sleeve/piston airbag vs convoluted type?
